Ingredients:- 500 grams split peas or lentils, 1.2 liter water, 175 grams ghee, 2 1/2 teaspoons salt, 2 large onions, 4 large tomatoes sliced, 4 garlic cloves, 6 cloves, 6 cardamoms, 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger, 2 teaspoons garam masala, 1.5 kg chicken skinned, boned and cut into pieces, 500 frozen spinach/fresh palak

 

Method:-

 

  • Wash the lentils and then place in a large saucepan. Add water and bring to boil. Cover the pan and lower the heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile melt ghee in a heavy based saucepan. Add onions and garlic a nd fry for 3 minutes stirring constantly. Add chicken and brown on all sides, and then removed and drain on absorbent paper.
  • Add spinach and tomatoes to the saucepan and fry gently over low heat for 10 minutes stirring constantly.
  • Mash lentils in their cooking water and then stir them into the spinach mixture. Return chicken to the pan, cover with a tightly fitting lid and simmer gently for 45 minutes or until the chicken is cooked and tender.
