FISH DISHES are renowned for lip-smacking curries, tikkas and tandoori fish. Fish tikkas and pakoras are served as accompaniment or starters. While fish curry, fish kofta curry and fish korma are served in main course.

Here are some interesting and well known dishes to try:-

Quick fish tacos:- Fish tacos are very popular and easy to make. Mix your cream and lime juice together in a large bowl; season with salt and black pepper. Reserve about half the mixture in another bowl for serving. Mince half the jalapeno pepper; save other half for later. Toss cabbage, green onions and minced jalapeno half in remaining sour cream mixture until well mixed.

Heat olive oil and remaining jalapeno half in a large skillet over medium heat; swirl oil to coat skillet evenly. Pan-fry fish strips in the skillet until fish is golden brown and easily flaked with a fork. Discard jalapeno half. Serve fish in warmed tortillas topped with cabbage slaw, reserved sour cream mixture and cilantro.

Bharwaan machhi:- A famous Indian fish recipe which can be made at home too. Heat butter in a frying pan and fry onion until golden. Add cumin, ginger, salt, green chilies and coriander. Mix together with lemon juice, mashed potatoes and vinegar. Clean and cut herrings and stuff with potato mixture. Make a batter by beating gram flour, water and breadcrumbs. Dip each fish in the batter and fry until golden and crisp on moderate heat. Garnish bharawan macchli (stuffed herrings) with coriander, lemon slices and lettuce leaves and serve hot.

Goan ambotik:- This is a classic recipe hailing from the west of India. Cooked traditionally with fish the key to this recipe is the use of fresh coconut rather than coconut milk. Use prawn in my recipe as the sweetness of the prawns is perfect with the hot and sour flavors of the gravy. “Ambat” in the local language means tangy and “tik” or “tikhat” as in Maharashtra and Goa means spicy or hot. The heat of the curry comes from the dried chilies.

Salmon with sugar:-  What could be better than a perfectly grilled salmon fillet for dinner? A perfectly grilled piece of salmon glistening with brown sugar and mustard glaze is what you must try. Roasted cauliflower pairs as the perfect side to these salmon fillets.   Potato salmon cakes:- This simple herb-filled dish comes together in a flash when you start with leftover potatoes and salmon. With a quick fry, last night’s dinner is turned into a simple, crispy lunch. Add color with red bell pepper and green onions.
